Nuclear War

Nuclear War

It doesn’t matter where you live, what country you are from, or what your beliefs are. This is by far one of the scariest and most realistic scenarios that could end civilization as we know it in a heartbeat. There are two types of nuclear bombs. The first type (only one used in warfare) is called the atom(ic) bomb and it is a fission type bomb. It uses uranium or plutonium to split apart atoms (fission) which begins a chain reaction of fission reactions. This rapid reaction creates a blast as powerful as 12,500 tons of TNT.

Just for a reference, 1 ton of TNT is about the same as being hit by 4,400 tons of weight at about 100mph. Hiroshima and Nagasaki were both hit by fission type atomic bombs. The other type of nuclear bomb is called a hydrogen bomb. This uses fusion to create isotopes of hydrogen (deuterium or tritium). The first thermonuclear (hydrogen) bomb released energy of about 10,000,000 tons of TNT. If you ever see a nuclear explosion in your lifetime, it is either a fusion bomb, or more likely a combination of fusion and fission. The explosion from the bomb will consist of a few different things.
